David "Pete" Saltsman

David “Pete” Saltsman, 75, of Dublin, formerly of Portsmouth, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at his home. He was born March 21, 1949 in Portsmouth, to the late Robert and Jean (Flannigan) Saltsman. Pete was a veteran of the United States Navy.  Pete worked at Big Sandy Furniture for over 30 years and later joined the team at Glockner Chevrolet. He was a huge Ohio State fan, loved to garden, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Pete could always be found telling a funny joke trying to make people laugh and feel good.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Shellie (Glynn) Saltsman, and three brothers, Stephen, Thomas, and Jeffrey “Gus” Saltsman.

Pete is survived by his three children, Nick Saltsman (Abby) of Dublin, Scott Saltsman (Kelly) of Powell, and Betsy Saltsman of Columbus, a brother, Robert Saltsman (Suzette) of Columbus, three sisters-in-law, Donna Saltsman of London, OH, Pam Saltsman of Lancaster, and Mary Saltsman of Portsmouth, and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his six grandchildren that he adored, Lily, Charlie, Annie, Joey, Clara, and Eleanor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 A.M Saturday, April 6, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Peter Gideon officiating with burial following at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth.

A visitation for friends and family will be on Friday April 5, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home with a Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Pete to Notre Dame High School or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth.
