Bernadine Catherine (Sommer) Gemperline

Bernadine Catherine (Sommer) Gemperline, 96, formerly of Portsmouth, died Monday, October 31, 2022, in Cincinnati, OH.  She was born August 21, 1926, in Portsmouth, to the late Bernard Clayton and Frieda Catherine (Brunner) Sommer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Meyer, Ralph Sommer, Eileen Gemperline, and Robert Sommer.

Bernadine attended Holy Redeemer High School. She loved her children dearly, and for several years, was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

Bernadine is survived by her husband, Eugene Joseph Gemperline, whom she married July 31,1948, six sons, Eugene Gemperline (Theresa Harris), Stephen Gemperline (Joy), Richard Gemperline (Susan), David Gemperline (Judith), Donald Gemperline (Katherine), Edward Gemperline (Marie), thirteen loving grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one on the way, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Portsmouth. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.  Visitation for friends and family will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Saturday, November 5, 2022, at Melcher Hammer Funeral in Portsmouth. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
