Betty J. (Holt) Duteil

Betty J. Duteil, 93, of Portsmouth, died Saturday July 23, 2022, at her home at the Hill View Retirement Center, with her family by her side. She was born November 19, 1928, in Portsmouth to the late John and Laura (Sparks) Holt. 

Betty was a 1946 graduate of Portsmouth High School and then later became a graduate of the Nursing Program at Portsmouth General Hospital in 1949. She retired as Nurse Supervisor in the OB-GYN at SOMC where she dedicated her entire professional career of 35 years. When she wasn’t working, she loved to go dancing, and later in life, her biggest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a 40-year member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, a member of Temple Baptist Church, and an avid sports fan, following her Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings; Marie Stout, Margaret Sullens, Lucille Lawrence, Helena Schroeder, Leroy Holt, Edward Holt, and George Holt.   Betty is survived by her children; Jeffrey Duteil (Scott) of Palm Springs, CA, Lee Duteil of Dayton, and Linda Addington (Steve) of Lucasville, five grandchildren; Lindsey (Ronnie), Meredith (Scott), Stephanie (Theo), Robert (Arlene), and Michael, four great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor John Gowdy officiating, burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation for friends and family will be on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home, and again one hour before the service on Thursday.
