Betty Jane Wear, 84, of Friendship, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, October 15, 2022. Betty was born February 7, 1938, in Portsmouth to the late Vernon Rayburn and Flo (Kinney) Rayburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, James K. Wear, a sister, Wilma Rayburn, and a son-in-law, Bryan Robinson.
Betty retired from Job and Family Services as an assistant case manager, she was very active in the Nile Township Ladies Auxiliary, attended First Presbyterian Church, worked the election polls, and loved to go dancing with her husband at the American Legion, Post #23. Family was very important to Betty, she wanted to make sure everyone was always fed.
Surviving are son, Rex Wear (Donna) of Stout, daughter, Melissa “Missy” Wear Robinson of Zanesville, brothers, Vernon Rayburn (Carol) of Pennsylvania, Jimmy Rayburn of Portsmouth, as well as seven grandchildren; Brooke Wear, Jean Eldridge (Michael), Dakota Wear, Bryan Robinson, Wesley Robinson, Joshua Thoroughman, Brandon Thoroughman (Stephanie), and eleven great grandchildren including Gabrielle Collis, who Betty raised as if she were her own daughter.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. A visitation for friends and family will begin at 12:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
