Christopher Shawn McClain, 55, of Portsmouth, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at SOMC Hospice. Chris was born September 5, 1969 in Columbus, OH to the late Jerry McClain and Johnnie Sue (Angel) McClain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother, Olive (Borders) Angel.
Chris is survived by his wife, Carissa (Reeves) McClain, son, Carlos Ricks, of Columbus, step-son, Varren Melvin, of Portsmouth, two brothers, Kennith McClain of Columbus, Kevin McClain of Terry, MS, and sister, Anjelika Dongelmans, of Seattle, Washington, along with seven grandchildren; James McElveen, Zaki, Za’Nyla, Zymere, and Promise Melvin, as well as Major and Elijah Riveria.
Chris was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Portsmouth, he was their sound engineer, he was also the creator and leader of The Fellowship at Beulah. Chris was a website designer and videographer. He was the founder of Created Apparel and Justrightfit.com. Chris was an active member in Cocaine Anonymous for 19 years.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, April 14, 2025, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Dr. Jerry D. Fryar officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth. Visitation for friends and family will be held two hours prior to the service on Monday, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
