Danny Ray Johnson

Danny R. Johnson, 72, of Wheelersburg, died Monday, February 27, 2023 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. He was born January 26, 1951 in Portsmouth, to the late William C. Johnson, Sr. and Betty (Dunn) Johnson. 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, William Johnson III. 
Danny was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired tow boat Captain on the Ohio River. 
Danny is survived by wife, Valerie (Gregory) Johnson, at home, a son, Danny Johnson (Valerie) of South Point, two daughters, Betty Jean Johnson (Martin) and Brenda Kay Johnson both of San Antonio, TX, a step-daughter, Keri Hamilton (Alan) of West Portsmouth, a step-son, Charlie Hamilton (Melissa) of Minford, and a brother, William C. Johnson, Jr. (Nora) of Waskom, TX. Danny is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and cousins on both sides of his family. 
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, March 3, 2023 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Chaplin Jason Coriell officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, where military rites will be performed by the American Legion, James Dickey Post #23. 
A visitation for friends and family will be on Friday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
