Eugene Gemperline Obituary

Eugene Joseph Gemperline, 100, of Cincinnati, Formerly of Portsmouth, died Monday, November 20, 2023 at Mercy Fairfield Hospital in Butler County. He was born June 3, 1923 in Portsmouth, to the late John and Margaret (McNamara) Gemperline. Gene was a Lieutenant in World War II Air Corp. and later worked as a contract auditor for Department of Defense.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadine (Sommer) Gemperline and his five brothers; Albert, John, Robert, Howard, and Edward Gemperline.

Gene is survived by his children; Eugene Gemperline (Theresa), Stephen Gemperline (Joy), Richard Gemperline (Susan), David Gemperline (Judith), Donald Gemperline (Katherine), and Edward Gemperline (Marie), 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father David Glockner officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth where graveside military rites will be provided by American Legion, James Dickey Post #23. A visitation for friends and family will be at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, two hours before the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Gene to any Catholic charities for the poor.
