George Vetter, 96, of Portsmouth, died Thursday, February 25, 2021 at King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. He was born November 18, 1924 in Portsmouth, to the late Otto and Agnes (Schmank) Vetter.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, former board member for the C.A.Y., a graduate of Xavier University, and a 4th Degree member of the Knight's of Columbus. George was a retired Manager at Phillips Supply.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo (Haddock) Vetter, and his four brothers; Mark, Edward, Robert, and Fred Vetter.
George is survived by his children; David Vetter (Kathy) of Portsmouth, Gregory Vetter of Portsmouth, Molly Lewis (Tim) of Portsmouth, Christine Gormley (Gerry) of Chittenden, Vermont, and Teresa Vetter of California, two sisters; Mary Frances Bruch of Solon, OH and Ann Oberling (Henry) of Portsmouth. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. A visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Melcher Hammer Funeral in Portsmouth.
A Recitation of the Rosary will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home, following visitation.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George's memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Notre Dame Schools.
Face coverings and social distancing will be required once inside the funeral home and church.
