Irene Aina Bushman

Irene Bushman, 85, of Portsmouth, died Sunday February 9, 2025. She was born October 15, 1939 in Riga, Latvia to the late Dr. Adolph and Ina (Vissels) Bushman. Irene taught elementary school and middle school for decades at Greenup County Schools. When she wasn’t educating children, she was enjoying time in her garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Byron Bushman.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Diana Ulsh, a nephew, Nicholas Bushman, two grandsons, David Merrill and Michael Merrill (Haley), and three beloved great-granchildren, Donnie, Bentley, and Carson Merrill, all of Portsmouth.

Funeral services will be 5:00 P.M. Friday, February 14, 2025 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth. A visitation for friends and family will be on Friday from 3:00 P.M. until the start of service at 5:00 P.M.
