James Robert Smith

James R. Smith,79 of Lancaster,Oh. ,formerly of Portsmouth,Oh. was called home Wednesday December 13,2023 at the Fairhope Hospice Center in Lancaster,Oh. He was born September 26,1944 in Circleville,Oh. to the late James and Evelyne Smith. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Smith. Jim was a 1962 graduate of Notre Dame H.S. and a graduate of Ohio University. Jim retired as Vice President of DeLille Oxygen. Jim(Papaw) is survived by his wife, Edna(Nana) of 36 years(October 23,1987) and two children, Josh (Amy) Lewis of Lancaster,Oh. and Angie (Tony) Lee of Grove City,Oh.  Papaw enjoyed the hobbies and interests of his grandchildren, Cody (Alena) Lee, Elly Lewis and Sydney Lewis even more than playing golf and bridge.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00pm Monday, December 18,2023 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1325 Gallia St. Portsmouth,Oh.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth,Oh.  A visitation for friends and family will be held Monday, December 18,2023 from 12pm to 1pm at Melcher-Hammer Funeral Home, 1417 Offnere St. Portsmouth,Oh.
