John R. Cassidy, 71, of West Portsmouth, died Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at SOMC Hospice. He was born January 25, 1950 in Portsmouth to the late Harry E. and Helen (Russell) Cassidy. John was a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High School, a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, a member of The Knights of Columbus, and was retired from Mark West Hydrocarbon in South Shore, KY. He loved the Cincinnati Bengals and Reds, and The Ohio State University Buckeyes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ed Mahle, a sister-in-law, Patty Cassidy, a niece, Donna Cassidy, and his beloved canine companion, Fritz.
John is survived by his wife of 37 years, Karla (Clark) Cassidy, two daughters, Kelli Jo Kerr (John) of Lucasville, Cindi McGovern (Justin) of Minot, North Dakota, two sons, Jason Cassidy (Courtney) of Wadsworth and Wesley Cassidy (Lindsey) of West Portsmouth, his siblings; Pat Mahle, Jim Cassidy (Kim), Harry Cassidy (Maxine), Tom Cassidy (Deanna), Janet Clark (Ken), Steve Cassidy, and Joe Cassidy (Marcella), and loads of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is also survived by six grandchildren; Sammi Jo, Karley, Colin, Scarlet, John Jr., and Ryan, 3 great-grandsons, and his childhood and still to this day best friend, Bob Stern.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Watikha officiating. A visitation for friends and family will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, June 14, 2021 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth. A Recitation of the Rosary will be Monday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
