Larry Dean Sparks, 64, of Portsmouth, died Friday, July 15, 2022, at his home after an extended illness. He was born November 3, 1958, in Portsmouth, to the late Wiley and Nellie Katherine (Stone) Sparks.
Larry was a 1977 graduate of Wheelersburg High School, was a former employee of Glockner’s Service Department. He loved working on cars, having even worked in pit crew for several years. He was also a World War II historian and loved watching football and racing.
In addition to his parents, Larry is preceded in death by his wife, Sherry (Murnahan) Sparks.
He is survived by four sons, Gary Sparks (Rebecca) of West Portsmouth, Thomas Sparks (Angela) of Portsmouth, Curtis Sparks of Portsmouth, and Chris Robinson of Portsmouth, three daughters, Stacy Robinson of Portsmouth, Jessica Reed (James) of Portsmouth, and Natalie Tecan (Martin) of Portsmouth, a sister, Darlene Crager of Lucasville, 22 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Pete Schaffer officiating.
A visitation for friends and family will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, one hour prior to the service.
