Mary Frances (Bailey) Paul

Mary Frances (Bailey) Paul, 96, of Columbus, formerly of Portsmouth, died Friday, January 8, 2021 at Mother Angeline McCrory Manor, in Columbus.

She was born August 6, 1924 in Portsmouth, to the late Miles Lafayette Bailey and Dicy (DeBord) Bailey.

Mary proudly worked most of her adult life in retail while raising her family. She worked at Montgomery Ward until their closure, and then at Atlas Fashion, Piece Goods, and Marting’s department store. She enjoyed sewing and her quilting guild called “Down By The River” and loved it when the group of ladies would get together for lunches. She was a longtime member of Central Church of Christ in Portsmouth.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Paul, and all eight of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children; Harry D. Paul (Debra) of Sciotoville, Daniel E. Paul of Bedford, PA, and Jean E. Thomas (Mark) of Pataskala, OH.  She is also survived by four grandchildren; Alice Taylor (Chris), Harry Edward Paul (Stephanie), Jeffrey Thomas (Christie), and Janet Baker (Craig), five great-grandchildren; Cameron (Kylea), Alyssa, Sydney, Ella, and Arya.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Pastor Denny Dawes officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.

A visitation for friends and family will be on Tuesday from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
