Michael Edward Winkler

Michael E. Winkler, 73 of Powell, Ohio passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, with his family surrounding him.

He was born on April 10, 1950, in Portsmouth, a son of the late Donald and Mae (Suter) Winkler.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Courtney Clifford, and a brother-in-law, Richard Heller.
Mike graduated from Portsmouth Notre Dame High School in 1968. He graduated from Ohio University with a business degree. He obtained a master’s degree in business administration from Central Michigan University. Mike retired from American Electric Power after 38 years of service.

He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, playing cards and watching The Ohio State Buckeyes. 

Mike was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Sonja. They recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, Sonja (Deskins) Winkler, he is survived by two daughters, Heather Winkler (C.J. Romano) from Delaware, OH, Micah McGlinchey (Patrick) from Phoenixville, PA, two sisters, Mary Clifford (Curt) of Portsmouth, and Alice Heller, of Dublin, two granddaughters, Kylie and Quinn, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, Ohio 43065

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 515 5th Street, Portsmouth, burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Portsmouth.

Visitation for family and friends will be 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
