Patty Collins, 95, passed away on Sunday, April 9th, 2023 to be with the Lord. She was born on Easter Sunday and joined her heavenly family on Easter Sunday as well. Born April 8, 1928 in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Violet Pierron. She was married to the late Bill Collins on Oct. 25, 1947. Their devotion to each other created a strong marriage for 64 years and they were the proud parents of ten children. She was preceded in death by her brothers Dave (Genny) Pierron of Marion, Gerald (Tee) Pierron of Portsmouth, son Paul Joseph and her great-grandson Gregory Thomas Keuter. She was a graduate of Holy Redeemer High School Class of 1947 and resided in West Portsmouth for 68 years. She was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church and was a founding member and volunteer for the church’s New To You Thrift Store for more than 25 years. Along with her husband she was active with the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department serving as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Patty was a self-taught seamstress and served the community by sewing cheerleading, band, and bridesmaid’s dresses. She was best known for making Barbie and Ken doll clothes while raising her nine children. Surviving relatives are her eight sons and one daughter: Jim (Jess) Collins of Las Cruces NM., Dr Don Collins (Susie) of Lexington, KY, Tom (Trina) Collins of Perry, GA, Steve (Missy) Collins of Edgewood, KY, Dave (Cindy) Collins of Hoschton, GA, Kenny (Cindy) Collins of Wheelersburg, Tim (Mary Beth) Collins of Greer, SC, Doug (Tracy) Collins of Wheelersburg, Barb (Tony) Bazler of Portsmouth, 23 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. Friends may call between the hours of 5 PM-7 PM with the Recitation of the Rosary following visitation at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth on Friday, April 14,2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday April 15th at 10 AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and she will be laid to rest beside her husband at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department or SOMC Hospice.
