Paulette Collins Obituary

Pauletta A. Elswic-Collins of Portsmouth, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on Friday, May 5th, 2023 at the age of 59 years young.

She was born August 21, 1963 in Portsmouth to the late Paul A. Elswic and the late Frances M. Cayton-Elswic-Madden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her only brother, Arthur Elswic, as well as a granddaughter, Jurzi Monroe.

She was very proud of, and is survived by three children, six grandchildren, one niece and several other close family and friends. Her children, a son, Billy (Triston) Monroe of Portsmouth, her daughters, Michele (Gary) Shortridge-Giles of Sciotoville, and Inez “Nicky” Elswic of Portsmouth. Her only niece, Megan (Caden) Elswic, of Greenville, PA. Her grandchildren, a grandson, Jackson Monroe, granddaughters, Peyton (Devin) Hall-Goers, Destynee Monroe, Kelseigh Giles, Chanel Monroe, and Anneriss Elswic, whom she was raising as her own. She is also survived by her best friend of over 50 years, Juanita (Joe) Sissel of Portsmouth. She leaves behind many, many friends and family who were all very near and dear to her heart.

She was so full of spunk and life. She loved so big and so unconditionally. She was a collector of many things such as glassware, coins, and etc. She loved camping, sunbathing and being outdoors. She loved watching football and true crime shows. She had a green thumb and fully enjoyed all things gardening. She had a love for all things nature but especially hummingbirds and she would probably fight you over her peacock feathers. She was the most stubborn person you could ever meet in your life but she also had the biggest heart and was always ready for a big hug when she would greet you. She loved classic rock, doing karaoke, and line dancing at work with her coworkers and residents. She was a caregiver at Country Living Assisted Living in West Portsmouth. Her coworkers and residents, as well as her boss and her boss's husband were very special to her and meant the world to her. She truly was one of a kind and irreplaceable. She will be deeply missed, always loved, and always remembered by all.

“Weep Not For Me”

Weep not for me though I have gone
Into that gentle night
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul’s sweet flight
I am at peace, my soul’s at rest
There is no need for tears
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years
There is no pain, I suffer not
The fear is now all gone
Put now these things out of your thoughts
In your memory I live on
Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife
Please do not dwell upon my death
But celebrate my life
