Retha Mae Cantrell, 72 of Portsmouth, Ohio went home to rest on September 18, 2024. Retha was born September 10, 1952 to the late Wilbur and Myrtle (Jackson) Hull.
In addition to her parents, Retha was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Geneva and James 'Barney' Cantrell, a grandson Justin Edward Collins, brothers Tom, Gale, Jim, John, and Wendell Hull, sister, Patsy Whitt, brothers-in-law, Clarence Cantrell and Gary Bellar, and a sister-in-law Tana Cantrell.
Retha was employed for 24 years at the Scioto County sheriff's office and served as a cook and loved every second of her employment as well as her work family.
Retha married her love and soulmate on February 27, 1970, Henry Allen Cantrell. Besides her loving husband Retha was proud of her two children, son, Billy 'BJ' Cantrell (Andrea Bailey) and Tina Cantrell-Collins of Portsmouth, Ohio, her grandchildren Hunter (Amber) Collins, Jacob (Natalie) Collins, Trinity (Faith) Cantrell. Parker Cantrell, and the ones she loved like her own, Alexis, Ryder and Ari. Retha was a devoted wife, mother, granny, sister, aunt and friend. Retha’s favorite hobbies were cheering on her children and grandchildren in their various sporting events, or singing along with her son’s band, cruising around the world or playing intense games of hand and foot with her husband and family.
She is also survived by her brother Kenneth (Eleanor) Hull, two sisters, Rose (Gary) Bellar and Jane (Larry) McCarthy, sisters-in-law, Carmen Hull, Paula Hull, and Lori Hull, a brother-in-law James Cantrell (Betty Hayton-McKee) and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 23, 2024 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Rick Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg. A visitation for friends and relatives will be on Monday, starting at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
