Robert L. Schuman, 76, of Portsmouth, died Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at SOMC Hospice. He was born October 7, 1946 in Portsmouth, to the late Louis and Norma Jean (Schivner) Schuman. Bob was a 1964 graduate of Notre Dame High School, a veteran of the United States Air Force, and had worked at Empire Detroit Steel, and then worked in industrial sales for Sheridan Safety and Premier Safety, and even worked until his death for ABCO. He use to repair antique furniture and had a passion for photography.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Steve Schuman and a grandson, Michael Taylor.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dolores (Ward) Schuman, three daughters, Drenda Elliott (Dean) of Portsmouth, Tonya Buckle (Steve) of Minford, and Jackie Caldwell (Ron) of Lucasville, a son, Randy Harness of Portsmouth, a special grandson, Cainen Jarrells of Portsmouth, a sister, Diane Ward, and a sister-in-law, Karen Schuman of Columbus. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 17, 2023 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Brent Saxton officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be provided by the William A. Baker Lucasville Post #363 and the James Irwin Post #622. A visitation for friends and family will be on Friday at the funeral home from noon until the hour of service at 2:00 P.M.
