Ruth J. (Wear) Melcher

Ruth Wear Melcher, 98, died on December 15, 2020 at St. Margaret Hall Nursing Home in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had been a resident there for the past two years. She was born May 25th, 1922, in Portsmouth, a daughter of David Scott and Sarah (Baker) Wear. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Carl A. Melcher, and her siblings; David, George, Richard, Keith, James, Dorothy, Margaret, Ethel, Betty, Beth, and Kitty.

Ruth loved and lived for her seven children (Barbara, C.J, David, Joan, Bobbie, Mary and Terri), fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. She spent much of her time with them on long visits, phone calls and many family vacations. 

She enjoyed swimming and exercising at the Life Center. Also, she was an avid reader. Her Holy Redeemer Church activities including: the choir, mercy meals and Bible study were a very important part of her life. She volunteered for many years teaching reading at Holy Redeemer. 

Ruth was a kind and generous women who always had time to listen and to care about others. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. 

A private service will be held for the family 12:00 P.M. Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.
