Shirley (Cornett) Blackwell

Shirley A. Blackwell, 83, of Portsmouth, died Sunday, January 12, 2025 at her home. She was born June 23, 1941 in Portsmouth, to the late Casey and Madge (Felty) Cornett. Shirley was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick E. Blackwell and a brother, Darrell Cornett.

Shirley is survived by her son, Clifford Blackwell (Dee) of LaPorte, Texas, a grandson, James Autrey (Heather), two great-granddaughters, April McIntosh (Tommy) and Kirstin Lacy, a special niece, Darla Cornett, a brother, Keith Cornett (Diane), of Wilmington, Delaware, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Cornett of Brunswick, Ohio.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with Pastor Sherman Mefford officiating. Burial will follow at Everman Cemetery in Grayson, KY, where military rites will be provided by the United States Air Force, from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. A visitation for friends and family will be on Saturday, starting at 11:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
