Shirley Ann Sexton, 75, of Minford, passed peacefully Friday, January 24, 2025 at SOMC Hospice surrounded by her loved ones. She was born August 3, 1949 in Portsmouth, to the late George and Mary (Horrocks) Smith.
Shirley was a homemaker that excelled as a loving wife, compassionate mother, and selfless grandmother. She was an excellent cook, known for her mashed potatoes and fried chicken. Shirley was also known for her expertise in fiber crafts, particularly sewing and crocheting. She has created a lasting impact in the lives of those around her through her warmhearted nature, generosity, and optimism. To know her was to love her and be loved by her as Shirley possessed a notably welcoming spirit offering kindness to all around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Smith and a sister, Margaret Smith.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Sexton, whom she married on January 20, 1968, a son, Anthony Sexton (Melissa) of Rosemount, a daughter, Tawnya Ingram (Mike) of Portsmouth, a brother, Dave Smith (Lisa) of Ironton, a sister, Rosie Stamper (Edward) of Indiana, five grandchildren, Lesleigh Burchett (Jeff), Emily Brown (John Bowen), Derrick Brown (Tori), Carly Sexton, and Connor Sexton as well as 2 great grandchildren, Adalynn Burchett and Landon Burchett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation for friends and family will be 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday, January 31, 2025 at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Funeral services will start at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace.
